Action 1: Repent
The United States has actively engaged in gruesome armed conflict both domestically and on foreign soil for centuries. As people of faith and conscience and as American citizens, we must repent of the collective amnesia which obscures this from our view; we must practice introspection -- asking critically on what grounds, if any, we may assert “moral authority” on a world stage; and we must have both the humility and courage to take accountability for our own nation’s acts of violence, calling them plainly and unequivocally what they are: evil in God’s sight. This is our first and foremost step to waging peace.
